World Drama Day-2019

World Drama was held under the leadership of Mr. S. Chandrakumar, Head , Dept. of Fine Arts at the Nallaiah Memorial Hall in the Eastern University, Sri Lanka, Vantharumoolai Campus on 27th March , 2019 from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. more or less after 14 years period. Cultural band performance was organized for welcoming the guests participated in the inauguration ceremony of the World Drama Day programme by the Department of Fine Arts.

The drama ‘ Abasuram’ written by the veteran Sri Lankan drama artiste N.Sundralingam was directed and staged by Mr.S.Chandrakumar. The hall packed with spectators appreciated the drama by rapturous applause.

Children Dramas : ‘periyoor sol ketpoom’(Let us listen to words of great men) written by K.Thilakanathan, ‘poonai vaithiyar’ (cat doctor) of E.Kamalanathan directed by Mr. K.Ravichandran, Senior Lecturer, Dept. of Fine Arts and ‘kool kuditha kurankukal’ (monkeys which had porridge) written and directed by Mr. T.Gowrieeswaran , Lecturer (Prob), Dept. of Fine Arts, FAC, EUSL were performed in the afternoon performances.

Dr.K.E. Karunakaran, Deputy Vice Chancellor of the EUSL graced the inaugural of function of the drama festival as the chief guest. Prof.V. Kangasingam, Rector Trincomalee campus and Mr.M . Ravi, Dean, Faculty of Arts & Culture participated as special guests in the event. Retired Prof. S.Maunaguru, council member of the EUSL and Deputy Registrar of FAC Mrs.MSJ. Mumthaj Sameem have taken part as guests of honour in the festival. Mr. T.Malarselvan, cultural coordinator of Batticaloa district graced the occasion as the guest for evening performances.

The Performances of the students of Fine Arts were enjoyed and appreciated by professors, Senior Lecturers, Lecturers, non-academic staff, university students, school teachers and students and public. Lots of Publics were participated as audience in this Festival.
