Welcome to Department of Geography

The Head and the Staff of the Department of Geography welcome you all to Department of Geography, Faculty of Arts and Culture, Eastern University, S.L. The Department of Geography was established in the Eastern University, S.L in the year 1992 at the faculty of Arts and Culture. The course of Geography is designed to improve students understanding of the world in which they live. The attraction as a discipline lies in its diverse interests and approaches to knowledge building while being centered on the fundamental concepts of human environment relationship. Our completely revised curriculum provides undergraduate students with a wide range of experience and skills across the breadth of geography. It provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to explore and analyze the variation in human activities, physical and biological processes and landforms that exist among places, regions, and countries. It is also tailored to improve the analytical skills necessary to interpret real-world problems in the cultural and physical environment.

Objectives

  • To provide students with an understanding of fundamental concepts and current developments in physical and human geography
  • To develop an understanding of the importance of space and place as dimensions of human activity at local, national and global scales and an appreciation of the complex relationships between people and their environments.
  • To demonstrate different dimension of Geographical Thoughts and Methodology, analytical skills on digital and manual cartographic techniques, Quantitative Techniques, Geo Spatial Technology and Information Science, Land Surveying and Principles of remote sensing
  • To produce graduates with intellectual, analytical, interpersonal and professional skills to enhance the employability and their enthusiasm for lifelong learning

Intended Learning Outcomes

After completion of the course in Geography, students will be able to

  • understand and explain the spatiotemporal variations of physical, biological and human phenomena
  • demonstrate a sound understanding of the key geographical concepts and theories that apply to the interconnection between people, environments and places
  • analyze and interpret spatial data relating to both human activity and the biophysical environment and to manipulate geographic information in digital formats
    evaluate intellectual skills, discipline-specific skills, key skills in a variety of professional contexts of career development
