Biography

Mathanraj Seevarethnam is a lecturer/research scholar at the Department of Geography, Faculty of Arts and Culture, Eastern University, Sri Lanka since 2017. He received his B.A. Honours degree with first class in Geography from the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka in 2015 and graduated M.Sc. in GIS and Remote Sensing from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka in 2019. He was awarded PhD in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Technology Malaysia, Malaysia in 2023.

He teaches various courses in geography for general and honours degree students. He teaches the courses "Urban Geography, Population Geography, Economic Geography, Human Geography, Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing". He is an enthusiastic, dedicated and hard-working young academic who has also been awarded various scholarships and prizes from local and international organizations. He is a multidisciplinary researcher with a technical background in geography, and his expertise covers many applications of geo-informatics. His research interests cover various aspects across geography, mainly distributed urban growth, sprawl, spatial planning and modelling.
